How to start a blog on Blogger ?

If you really want to start blogging and learn how blogging is done. Then start blogging with blogger platform.

Blogger is a free platform where you can create a blog in few minutes. This platform is owned and managed by Google which makes it a trusted platform. 

Setting up a blog on blogger doesn't cost anything and is easy and fast. In this post I will share with you how to create a blog on blogger. In this post I will also share with you some of the advantages and drawbacks of using blogger platform.

Blogger offers free hosting to its users along with free subdomain blogspot.com extension. So if you are not willing to spend any money before you start earning from your blog, then go with this platform. It is the best in that case.

Creating a blog on blogger platform is very simple.

1) First open the blogger website.

2) Click on Create your blog button.

3) Login with your Google account or create a new account if you don't have one.

4) Type the blog title and click next.

5) Choose your blog URL for your blog. If the URL is available you can click on Save. Then type the display name and click Finish.

That's it. Your blog is ready.

On the blogger dashboard you will see few options at the left side. Let me explain how they work.

POSTS : You can check your posts in this section. Here you can add new post, edit your posts and view them.

STATS : In this section you can check the analytics of your blog like total number of visitors, specific visitor related information like their country, device etc. Also you can check the traffic sources to your blog.

COMMENTS : You can check the comments from your blog visitors.

EARNINGS : In earnings section you have an option to apply for an AdSense account to monetize your blog and earn money. If you already have an AdSense account then you can link that account to your blog. 

PAGES : Check the pages in your blog or add new pages like Contact, About, Privacy policy, Terms and Conditions etc.

LAYOUT : In this section you can change the layout of your blog and add or remove gadgets. There are a plenty of free gadgets which you can add to your blog from this section.

THEME : Change the theme of your blog by choosing from the available templates in this section. There are attractive and professional templates which you can choose to apply on your blog. You also get an option to change the theme for mobile devices as well and make your blog responsive.

SETTINGS : This is an important section where you can apply many settings in your blog. You can change the title and description part of your blog. Also you have an option to attach a custom domain to your blogger blog. Also there are settings related to posts, comments, monetization, crawlers and indexing etc.

So, once your blog is created you can start writing posts. When you create a new post you get option to customize the text, add images, videos and create hyperlinks. Once your post is ready you can publish your post and make it live. Before publishing the post make sure to add labels, search description and edit permalink if required on the right side of the page.

Click on Pages on the left side of the dashboard to add pages in your blog. You should add pages like Contact, About and Privacy Policy if you want to apply for Google AdSense and earn money from blog. 

There are many websites through which you can generate the privacy policy page for your blog free of cost. In the About page write few lines about yourself or your team and your motive behind creating the blog. Create a contact page and add your address, website or contact details so that your visitors can contact if required. You can also create a contact form through Google forms and embed in blogger Contact page through html.

The next important thing is to change or apply an attractive and professional theme on your blog. You can do this by clicking on Theme on the left side of dashboard. There are many templates available to customize your blog. Don't forget to choose a mobile friendly theme for mobile devices. 

Also there is an option Layout for changing the layout of the blog. Here you can also add gadgets like Blog search, Followers, Blog Stats, Language translator, Profile and many more. 

If you want to add a custom domain to your blogger blog, then you can easily do that from the Settings option. But first you need to buy a domain name from any domain name registrar. Once you have purchased a domain name you can redirect that custom domain to your blogger blog. A short and custom domain name gives your blog a descent and professional look. Anyways the hosting on blogger is free and if you want then you can just spend a few bucks to buy a domain name and redirect it to your free blogger custom domain.
